• It’s Tuesday, Again

    It’s Tuesday, Again

It’s 9:51 a.m. Tuesday EST as I begin to write this blog post.

The thing is, I don’t know why I’m writing this blog post.

Perhaps because it is Tuesday again. Another Tuesday working from home in what seems like a never-ending string of work-from-home-Tuesdays.

The water in the fish tank I purchased back in August makes a soothing waterfall noise as the tank’s filter quietly hums.

My cat just walked and then back out of my makeshift office in a spare bedroom of my wife’s and my house’s second floor.

Unlike last Tuesday, this one is sunny outside. Sunny and cold, but still a Tuesday.

Last night after dinner and drinking a few beers, I became very contemplative about purpose.

My purpose. The purpose of my work. My lack of purpose. My need to have a purpose.

My desire for my wife and I to find purpose together. I mentioned children.

And then we went to bed.

I woke up this morning. It’s Tuesday again, but how is Tuesday different from Monday or Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday?

Occasionally on Saturday or Sunday, I’ll do something different. I recently began running with a small group of people again on Saturday mornings.

Last Saturday evening, my wife and I went to the zoo to see all of its twinkling lights. In little more than a week and a half, she and I will spend three nights in a cabin in a forest located about a two-hour drive from our home.

I texted my wife this morning and told her I loved her. (Her work demands she goes into the office each day.)

She immediately texts back. She said she loved me too and asked how I was doing.

    I said okay . . . for a Tuesday.

  • How are you?

    How are you?

It’s been more than a minute since I last posted something to this site.

My bad, but there’s been a lot happening in the world. And I’m drowning in my feelings.

I know. I know. Who hasn’t? Consider it, and the title of this post, a rhetorical question.

I’ve worked from home since March 17. I don’t like noisy workspaces or people for that matter, yet the daily isolation is starting to grind on my psyche.

I’ve landscaped a pretty kickass backyard at the house my fiancee and I bought last August.

I sold my old house. I’m now debt free.

I have a pretty awesome pup snoring at my feet as I type this.

My fiancee and I are getting married in our backyard on Aug. 22.

    And yet . . .

I’m adrift. I feel as if I lack focus and purpose at the moment. So, here I am, blogging again.

Blogging for me is dangerous because I often end up exposing too much of myself.

But I need to do it. I need a platform for self-expression. And there are a few things that I’ve been working on that can only be published here.

    So, stay tuned.

  • Summertime and the livin’ is . . .

I feel better when I write.

And I don’t mean the type of writing I do for work (though lately, I’ve found that to be highly rewarding as well).

I mean sitting down and just sharing whatever comes out.

Maybe it’s a photo or gratitude list or an issue that I’m wrestling with.

    But it is summertime.

The start of the season is always busy.

    Bunbury Music Festival

There are a ton of summer events to cover for work, alongside graduation parties, birthdays and group outings with friends and family.

And yardwork. Oh, how I hate cutting grass.

Also, running in heat and humidity.

Dear God, give me the willingness to start running outdoors. I’ve been lax in my devotion to covering miles of asphalt recently. I am growing cranky and fat(ter).

    Amen.

Which leads me to this – I’m complaining but not really complaining.

If given the choice, I’d always choose to be busy rather than bored.

    Boring is dangerous.

It means I have time to think, like really think.

And when I think too much, my mind will manufacture drama to combat the boredom.

That kind of drama is never good.

So, this is me, sitting here and writing this post for no apparent rhyme or reason.

I’m just trying to remind myself to not stop what I tried to start again a few months ago – resurrect this blog.

Because, I need this space to ramble.

I also need to find the time to go swimming soon.

    Summertime.

Is living ever really that easy?
