Enjoying the silence

“Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” ~ Bruce Lee

Sometimes, when alone, I sit on the edge of the gym pool, feet dangling in the water.

The pool is enclosed on a second floor in glass and cement along the Ohio River.

With no one else there and the radio turned off, it is deeply silent. With the sun setting picturesque behind the river, bridges and city skyline to the west the scene is very serene.

I’ll take as long as I can on the pool’s edge and gently move my feet, internalizing my environment.

As I did this tonight I realized I’ve been so tense lately.
