Beware thoughts that come in the night

A week’s end nears

I’ve worked on a longer post dealing with my first experience with an audio book this week in fits. I just have not found time to collect my thoughts and write for more than a couple of minutes between work, personal commitments, and just trying to find time to unwind and relax at night. Hopefully, I’ll finish it soon though.

In the meantime I did find time to watch Invictus, Sunday afternoon. I enjoyed Morgan Freeman’s portrayal of Nelson Mandela in his first term as president of South Africa, and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, the team captain for the South African national rugby team. Clint Eastwood’s directing truly is something marvelous. I wouldn’t say the story is as compelling as Unforgiven, Mystic River, or Letters from Iwo Jima, but it is a solid above average film.

Over-all the plot played down overly done sports film cliches found in so many sports-as-inspiration films, instead slightly tweaking that theme by returning the focus to the man Nelson Mandela during key plot points, thus co-mingling the inspirational play on the field with the truly inspirational.
